Amorphophallus konjac is a striking exotic plant grown for its unusual foliage and dramatic seasonal growth. Native to warm subtropical and tropical areas of eastern Asia, it can be a fascinating conversation piece for indoor growing, patio containers, or warm-climate garden spaces. The plant produces a single deeply divided leaf from a subterranean tuber, and larger bulbs can develop an impressive leaf canopy and a tall inflorescence when mature.
Features:
- Exotic plant bulb offered in multiple size options
- Known by several common names, including devil’s tongue, dragon plant, elephant yam, konnyku, leopard arum, snake palm, and umbrella arum
- Produces a single intricate leaf from a subterranean tuber
- Can be grown as a house plant, seasonal outdoor plant, or container specimen
- Prefers warm temperatures, dappled sun, and moist, well-draining soil
- Bulbs are shipped in the end of September or early October
- Requires a dry dormant rest period in winter and protection from frost
This plant is best suited to gardeners who enjoy unusual specimens and are prepared to provide seasonal care. It can be started indoors and moved outside once nighttime temperatures stay above 55°F, or kept in a container on a patio or deck. Good drainage is important to help prevent rot, especially in cool weather. Because the plant is tender and frost sensitive, it should be brought indoors or stored dry for winter in colder regions. Please note that delivery and post-arrival care are the customer’s responsibility once the plant has shipped.
