Honeynut squash is a specialty mini butternut variety developed for superior flavor and compact growth. The semi-vining plants produce 5-inch fruits weighing 1 to 1-1/2 pounds with deep orange, sweet, and rich-flavored flesh. The rind changes from dark green to tan and finally to burnt orange at full maturity.
This variety has compact vines suitable for smaller spaces and offers intermediate resistance to powdery mildew. Honeynut squash is best grown in loose, fertile soil with warmth and full sun. Its excellent flavor and texture make it ideal for soups, stews, and desserts, and it stores well for two to three months despite its thinner skin.
